Reminders for First Year Students

The Colonial Health Center is excited to welcome all First Year Students to GW this fall! In preparation for your arrival, please make sure to complete the following three items before the start of the fall 2018 semester.

Immunization Records

Newly-admitted students under the age of 26 are required to provide proof of immunizations or they will incur a registration hold on their student account. The Fall 2018 submission process will allow students to upload their immunization records online!

Immunization records must be submitted by August 15th, 2018. For questions about the immunization submission process, visit our Immunizations page or email [email protected].

Student Health Insurance Plan

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is a comprehensive plan offered through Aetna Student Health. In alignment with the Affordable Care Act, SHIP guarantees that you can obtain necessary treatment if you develop a serious illness or injury. It also guarantees that you can obtain preventative medical services like immunizations and physical exams. In Fall 2018, all undergraduate students will be automatically enrolled in SHIP and will be charged $2,690 to their accounts.

CLICK HERE to waive SHIP. Those interested in the waiver must have proof of insurance and be registered for classes for the Fall 2018 semester.

The waiver period begins August 1st.  For questions about SHIP, email [email protected].

George Washington University expects  our 1st year students to complete the  EVERFI course AlcoholEdu for College in an effort to reduce negative alcohol-related consequences among students.  This education covers alcohol and motivation, standard drink size, blood alcohol concentration along with key strategies for those that choose to drink along with those that choose not to drink. This module will  help you to:

  • Develop  critical skills  to make thoughtful  and healthy choices outside  the classroom
  • Reflect  on your knowledge,  attitudes, and experiences  related to these issues
  • Support  your peers  and yourself  when faced with  tough situations

Login information and access instructions will be sent to your GW email account in early August. You must complete the training course by Saturday, September 1, 2018 to be in good standing with the university.
