We strive to make counseling as accessible as possible for students; therefore no appointment is necessary to make your first contact with one of our mental health counselors.
The first step to accessing counseling is to attend a free, brief and confidential consultation with a member of our counseling team. During your consultation with the counselor, you will discuss the problems you would like support with and create a plan of action to address your needs.
Consultations can be done in-person at the Colonial Health Center or by phone, during business hours. There is no appointment necessary, just come in or call. If you are in need of urgent support, you can access support by coming into the Center and asking to speak with a counselor. There are several counselors available throughout the day to meet with students and there is no fee for any urgent care or walk-in meetings.
We are aware that some students may prefer to meet with clinicians with specific areas of expertise to foster a sense of emotional safety in counseling. We offer walk-in periods that are staffed with clinicians who have specific and relevant expertise in these areas of diversity. The schedule for these walk-in periods is below. (NOTE: Specialized walk-in periods are not offered during the summer and winter break.)
- Stepped Care Counseling
- Suicide Prevention
- Crisis Hotlines and Resources
- Mental Health Assessments
- Off-Campus Counseling Referrals
