CAPS Appointments

The first step to accessing counseling is to attend a free, brief and confidential consultation with a member of our counseling team by calling (202) 994-5300 (option 3) or stopping by The Student Health Center, located on the Ground Floor of the University Student Center. During your consultation with the counselor, you will discuss the problems you would like support with and create a plan of action to address your needs.

Additional CAPS Information

Appointment Length

We recommend that you allot 60-90 minutes for your visit to ensure that you have time to fill out forms and allow for possible wait time and sufficient time to discuss your concerns with the counselor. The initial meeting with the counselor typically takes between 20-30 minutes depending on your concerns.

Treatment Plan

At the end of the consultation, you and your counselor will determine your individualized plan. If more support is necessary, you will discuss what kinds of services are available and schedule any follow-up meetings. CAPS offers an array of options including individual therapy, workshops, group counseling, and support spaces

Electronic Forms

You will be guided to your student portal and asked to fill out electronic forms, including demographic questions, information and consent, and a brief questionnaire about what is bothering you.  It usually takes about 15 minutes to complete these forms.
