CAPS Outreach
What Is Outreach?
Outreach is about extending the reach of counseling services beyond our center’s walls. By working innovatively and collaboratively with the larger GW community, we seek to increase connection and support through accessible and equitable programs and services; strengthen the GW campus’ overall well-being; and increase awareness of our students’ mental health needs. If you are interested in partnering with CAPS and have questions about how CAPS can help support your organization, department, or community please email CAPS.
How Do We Provide Outreach?
CAPS aims to empower the GW community through programs and initiatives that promote well-being and mental health awareness within outreach services. We provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to thrive by offering prevention and educational programming, fostering emotional well-being, and promoting healthy campus environments through community awareness.
What Does Outreach Look Like?
Outreach can be provided in a number of ways including: workshops, presentations, training, Support Spaces, and collaboration with campus partners. Some examples of outreach topics include, but are not limited to:
- Introduction to CAPS Services
- QPR Suicide Prevention
- Anxiety Management Workshops
- Mental Health Resource at campus events
- Crisis Response/Support
- How To Respond to a Student In Distress (Faculty/Staff Presentation)
- Affinity Support Spaces
Requesting An Outreach
We welcome requests from all members of our campus community including student groups/organizations, staff, faculty, administrators, and campus partners. We try to accommodate as many requests as possible, but at times, the volume and timing of requests means that CAPS providers may be unable to accept every request. Please submit your mental health outreach request using the CAPS Outreach Request Form at least three weeks in advance. We will do our best to accommodate your request and tailor programs to meet the needs of your specific group. Questions can also be directed to RaShonda Riley, LICSW, Assistant Director of Counseling Outreach at [email protected]
